Role: UX Designer Year: 2021 Stanley X
  • Overview

Stanley X is the innovation business of Stanley Black & Decker. They bring technology and transformation into the construction industry.

  • The Problem

Verifying the ordered material and delivered materials in commercial construction can be a time consuming task. Usually resulted in inaccurate data due to a lack of communication between all parties and rudiment process. Stanley X team saw the opportunity to create a software application that can speed up the process and improve accuracy.

  • Roles & Responsibilities

My Role: UX designer & Prototyper

Team: Project Manager, Senior Interactive Designer, and Researcher.

    Location: Remote

The Solution

The app Trackit allows users to quickly scan material barcodes using their smartphone cameras, update statuses, add storage locations, search materials, take photos, and more. Mobile updates are auto-synced to the cloud and can be easily accessed in real-time by anybody in the field and office teams.

The current process to verify materials that arrive on site:

  • The material is scheduled to arrive on site and the supplier has sent an email with the listed materials.
  • Paper slip order arrives with materials
  • Each material needs to be verified when they arrive on site manually from the paper slip order.
  • Later the paper slip order needs to be typed and compared against the digital order.

The New User workflow

User Story

This are a few of the user stories I followed for my design solution:

Web Interface solution

He opens Trackit app on his computer and uploads the sales order file.

He selects the sales order from his files.

He creates 5 status labels and assign colors:
- At vendor
- Not on site
- Arrived on site
- Installed
- Damaged

He is done with the project list and now its ready to be used in the construction field.

Mobile Interface solution

He opens the app

He downloads the project to his device

He opens the order number 3456 and sees the list of materials arriving today.

He scans the first doorframe

He changes the status to Arrived on site.

This step only has to be done once. He continues scanning the rest of the doorframes and their status changes automatically to Arrive on site

When he is done scanning. He can compare quantity ordered vs quantity received.

He can add stored locations, photos and notes.

A member of the team easily can update the status of a component.

She searches by door ID#

She changes the status to Damaged

She wants to add new pictures

She takes two pictures

Auto saved

The status on the slip order is updated and Auto-sync to cloud when device has internet.

A team member from the offices has instantly updates from the site.

He opened Trackit app and checks the status of order_3456 and sees that 3 doorframes has arrived and one is reported damaged

Initially Trackit was a feature for one of Stanley X app but after research, it developed into as a single app. I was not part of the validation phase and the final product may differ from this design.
